Facebook / User Interface & Exhibit Design

Role: Creative Director, Exhibit Design

The Connections Wall lives on the Facebook campus in Menlo Park as part of the new-hire orientation process. When new hires (or, n00bs) are first welcomed to the company, they are given the opportunity to interact with the Connections Wall which, drawing from their public Facebook profile data, shows them how they're connected to each of the other participants, through which mutual connections, and across how many degrees of separation. The ultimate goal of this data visualization is to suggest other colleagues the n00bs might be interested in meeting and to connect them to each other in real-time and real life. The Connections Wall serves as a personalized welcome activity that helps bridge the gap between a Facebook persona and the real person behind it, bringing the social media platform to life.
